Mekong Energy Company LTD (Meco) At a Glance

MECO is an IPP (Independent Power Producer). MECO owns and operates Phu My 2.2, a combined cycle power plant of 715 MW capacity gas fired in the southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in Vietnam.

It is the first wholly foreign-owned BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) investment awarded for 20 years by MOIT (Ministry of Industry and Trade in Vietnam).

Phu My 2.2 was in commercial operation on 4 February 2005, taking only 30 months for construction and commissioning after the financial closing.

The plant has been designed, erected and commissioned in the frame of an EPC contract signed with EDF (Electricité de France).

The Phu My 2.2 power plant’s purchase and sale of electricity is determined in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and its gas purchase is contracted in the Gas Supply Agreement (GSA) signed with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (PV Gas).
